Hoje,
vendo os ataques muçulmanos a embaixadas e igrejas cristãs por causa do filme que retrata Maomé, muitos ateístas renovam
suas forças e atacam a religião com um todo. Voltam à velha máxima de Lênin de
que a "religião é o ópio do povo". Acabar com a religião seria
desejado, pois as pessoas supostamente iriam ver a verdade e serem mais felizes. Bom, muitos governos no mundo tentaram isso, e especial os comunistas, o resultado não foi a verdade, nem muito menos a salvação.
Dois
grandes autores discutiram esta frase estúpida de Lênin.
- O grande G.K
Chesterton disse em1934 (Chesterton, G.K. Opium of the People. Publicado pela The New York American, em abril de 1934. Reproduzido pela Gilbert Magazine, volume 15,
Number 1, September 2011, page 50):
"The
truth is that irreligion is the opium of the people. Wherever the people do not
believe in something beyond the world, they will worship the world. But above
all, they will worship the strongest thing in the world. And, by the very
nature of the Bolshevist and many other modern systems, as well as by the
practical working of almost any system, the State will be the strongest thing
in the world. The whole tendency of men is to treat the solitary State as the
solitary standard. That men may protest against law, it is necessary that they
should leave injustice; that they may believe in justice beyond law, it is
necessary that they should believe in a justice system beyond the land of the
living men. You can impose the rule of the Bolshevist as you can impose the
rule of the Bourbons; but it is equally an imposition. You can even make its
subjects contented, as opium would make them contented." (na verdade
é a irreligião que é o ópio do povo. Onde quer que as pessoas não acreditam em
algo além do mundo, elas vão adorar o mundo. Mas, acima de tudo, eles vão
adorar a coisa mais forte do mundo e, pela própria natureza do comunismo e
muitos outros sistemas modernos, bem como pela prática de praticamente qualquer
sistema, o Estado será a coisa mais forte do mundo. A tendência geral dos
homens é tratar o solitário Estado como o padrão único. Para que os homens
protestem contra a lei, é necessário que eles abandonem a injustiça; que eles
acreditem em justiça além da lei, é necessário que eles acreditem em um sistema
de justiça que está além da terra dos homens vivos).
- O poeta e escritor Czeslaw Milosz, vencedor do Prêmio Nobel de Literatura de 1980, disse:
"A
true opium of the people is a belief in nothingness after death - the huge
solace of thinking that for our betrayals, greed, cowardice, murders we are not
going to be judged." (O verdadeiro ópio do povo é a crença no nada após a morte -. o enorme consolo de pensar que para as nossas traições, cobiças, covardias, assassinatos não haverá julgamento)
